The work of our church is done through our various committees and church boards. Each of these groups offer activities to put one’s faith into action. One of our very active groups THE MISSION OUTREACH COMMITTEE has its own tab. Take a look at what they are doing !!!!!
Below are some other avenues of service.
Serve as a Ruling Elder on Session
Serve Jesus on our BOARD OF DEACONS
||Our Board of Deacons are always looking for people to help them provide coffee and snack during the fellowship time.
The Board of Deacons is the caring heart of our church. They prepare and maintain a ‘Care List’ of individuals who are shut-in, disabled, or in particular immediate emotional need or in a vulnerable condition. They care to those on the list by means of flowers and visit during the holidays and at times of illness. They also send notes or cards to our shut-ins, elderly, those recovery from an illness or other acts of kindness. They maintain an assistance fund to help those in our community who are having difficulties paying rent, medicines, medical costs or utilities. They organize fundraisers to support this ministry and receive funds designated for this work every Sunday. The Deacons prepare the communion elements for our worship services that celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Members of this board are elected to this position by a congregational vote.
Serve Jesus on our BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board of Trustees of our church maintain the building and grounds of our church property. They are also in charge of the financial business of our congregation and appoint a church treasurer. They contract the lawn mowing and snowplowing work. Approval any requests and fees for the use of the church building other than for church programs. Our Trustees do a significant amount of the maintenance of the building themselves. Members of this board are elected by a congregational vote.
Serve Jesus with the WORSHIP COMMITTEE
The Worship Committee purpose is to provide for our community to respond to God’s mighty act of redemption in Jesus Christ in corporate worship at its highest possible level in Scripture, Sermon, Sacrament and song. They arrange for Elders to assist the pastor in the administration of the Sacraments. They are responsible for maintaining pulpit supply when the pastor is unavailable. Along with their maintaining and changing of the paraments, banners, registration books and pew envelopes. They recognizing and welcome visitors to the church and supervise the nursery. They make recommendations for securing the services of choir directors, organists and other musicians.
Serve Jesus with the CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Serve Jesus with the CHURCH MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The Membership Committee purpose is to encourage regular participation of those who are members of our church and recruit new people to join the church. They are to act as hosts at events that draws people from the general community with the purpose of inviting them to attend our church. They are to keep track of those who have not been in attendance and contact those who have not received communion for a year. They will recommend to Session those individuals who should be removed from the active membership roll of the church.
Serve Jesus with the MISSION QUILTERS
One of the happiest groups that gather to serve is the Mission Quilters. They meet Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. through the school year. The quilts they make go to various people: victims of tornados, children in need, friends in nursing homes, and friends in the church. They often sell their quilts to maintain a fund for all the good work they do. If you can use a pair of scissors or tie a knot – you can be a Mission Quilter.
Serve Jesus at the Annual Harvard Milk Day Brat Stand
Our church raises funds to be used for extra mission or church projects over and above our general congregational mission pledges. These funds help pay for advertising, special concerts as ANAVOX and “Forgiven Quartet”, production of our church pamphlets, food donations to Githiga Children’s Home, and the development and yearly website expenses.
